How To Reupholster a Dining Chair Cushion

in Furniture on 05/12/23

Our dining table has had a set of 4 chairs for many years and countless times I’ve had to improvise with adding seating for guests. I have begun working on our dining room design and I knew adding more chairs was a priority. For a few weeks I had my eye on Facebook Marketplace and finally a beautiful set came up. We had a slightly tricky time setting up a time to pick up the chairs that were about 50 minutes from our house, but we worked it out. I was so happy to see that the chairs were all in excellent condition. The listing had one photo of one chair. I very happily handed over $240 to the wife of a furniture repairman and drove away with 6 beautiful chairs.

Now the time came to pick fabric for the chair makeover. I went to a decor fabric warehouse and found a beautiful textured velvet fabric that matched the color I’ll be painting the trim in the dining room. SCORE! The fabric was $15 per yard and I got 4 yards to ensure I had enough to make continuous piping. Now with the fabric and chairs I was in $300. That’s $50 per chair. I bought a pneumatic staple gun ($35) and staples ($5) as well, but that cost spreads out to another HUGE project I have coming up. I am reupholstering two couches!

I have linked the tools I used in this project in my Amazon Storefront so you can find them all in one spot. If you have an air compressor, I highly recommend getting the pneumatic staple gun. It makes the job so much easier on your hands. We have this air compressor and it is great. We use it for nail guns, filling our car tires, dusting stuff in the workshop, and stapling now.

Today I did my own plumbing work for our shower re Today I did my own plumbing work for our shower remodel. I was afraid to do it, but I spent a lot of time learning and preparing. The more information I learned the more I felt capable. The soldering made me nervous and my hands felt a little shaky, but I committed no matter the outcome. I followed all the steps (even if they aren't shown in this tiny video). John encouraged me and showed me how to turn our water supply off for the first time. This was a good exercise in being willing to try something new. I'm really proud! We turned the water on and it's holding tight! On to the next task. 🚿
